Many times large sections of the road would either be washed away by rainy-season storms or ground to a pit of fine powder by over-loaded trucks during the dry-season. Then we would have to veer off precipitously and suddenly in search of tracks through the desert. Sometimes, what we found was so rutted through the deep sand that it would guide our land-cruiser on a path we could not control.
